Exploring the Experiences of Spousal and Child Caregivers from Minority Groups Caring for Family Members at the End-of-Life.

About

Family caregivers play a significant role in caring for the elderly, however there are often limited resources available to them, particularly to caregivers from ethno-cultural and linguistic minority groups. To better understand how to support caregivers, this study examines the experiences of family caregivers of individuals at the end-of-life who belong to linguistic or visible minority groups. This study has three objectives: (1) To document the experiences of spousal and child caregivers for individuals at the end-of-life by exploring the nuances related to racial, ethno-cultural, and linguistic minority status; (2) To understand the experiences and/or perceptions of palliative care support and resources for caregivers from minority groups; and (3) To explore how caregiving experiences impact caregivers who are, or anticipate to soon become, care-recipients themselves in terms of decisions about their own care.
